→ QUESTIONS MEME #2

Oh, gosh.

It's Sunday and I am reasonably bored, Ryuunosuke hit 10k 11k last week, Philip breached 2k, Kageyama is close to 4k, Nango 3k and so on and so forth.

ASK A QUESTION it can be anything CFUD related, OOC, IC, Relationship, psychology, thoughts, whatever. I.E. My character's opinion of your character or maybe what you have been wondering about this behavior or that, or general thoughts on my characters or canons or what, who I might consider topping you into apping, etc.

WHEN I REPLY I will also ask you a question in turn!

In this way we talk at each other, which is fun.

J and Hino are exempt from anything but first impressions, they haven't even hit 1k yet.

Goddamnit.

Genta also thinks it's perfectly natural and it's only a private habit people may have! As for himself, he has done it but a little less than the average guy in his age group because he just didn't think about hormones and sex that much as a teenager. Go, go, rigorous self-training to be a samurai?! Sharing a cabin with a bunch of other guys in camp really discourages it. So the showers are the only place he does it. He... may have thought about the princess once or twice but their relationship is so new that he purposely tries to avoid going down that path.

You know how much I enjoy headcanon. What's the longest wiki walk Philip has done and what was the topic that started it?

[identity profile] wetfortono.livejournal.com 2010-11-14 08:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Pokèmon springs to mind. That would probably do it, after having met Yellow and cuddling Chuchu a lot, who appears to really loev Philip. Second to that would be the extended wikiwalk on kissing and relationships, I guess. Which was started because he joined during July mistletoe season!

HEADCANON YOU SAY

The piece of technology Genta is the most interested in!

Mobile technology, particularly cell phones. This came up while he was trying to think of a way to transform. He knew he didn't have a chance in getting a shoudophone so he figured he'll have to make his own transformation device!

Like I mentioned in an essay once, my headcanon is that he took apart a lot of old cell phones, studied them, and read up on them a lot. He finds it really amazing all the things you can do from devices that could be hardly bigger than your hand. He has all those crazy extra figures in the sushichanger because he figured he why not? LET'S SEE HOW MUCH HE CAN DO. 8D I'm sure he finds the western models like the iPhone amusing in a "oh hey, about time they caught up to Japan |D" way.

So what was Ryuunosuke like as a high schooler? ... Man, did he even go to high school?

[identity profile] wetfortono.livejournal.com 2010-11-14 08:30 pm (UTC)(link)
OF COURSE HE WENT TO HIGH SCHOOl, GEEZ

And he was the most stressed student ever, keeping up with class and studies and kabuki and samurai training. Honestly, he would have been more ambitious if he hadn't devoted himself to the latter two so much - but he always made sure to keep his grades in the upper half of average. He was a bit of a nerd who didn't make many friends because his nose was stuck in books during any break, although he was always friendly and polite. I'm sure he came off as the mysterious handsome stranger to the girls, kyaa kyaa aibacchi, until they noticed that he was actually simply a dork. Not cool. He'd leave immediately after class. His fellow students probably didn't even know what was keeping him so busy, until the word spread when people noticed him on the actors list of a fairly big kabuki performance. Then he was simply brushed off as an old-fashioned stick in the mud. He didn't really bother with correcting them, since he had no time to make friends, anyway.

WHY ARE YOU A GENIUS YET CAN'T EVEN READ KANJI, GENTA

[personal profile] justplaingolden 2010-11-14 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)
SOB. One day, while canon reviewing, I took a screencap of the pages Genta tried to read because I was wondering if the reason he couldn't read it was because the books had some sort of arcane style of writing. I asked Bear and showed him the screencap. He said that the characters were done in grass style which meant that they were very pretty but can be goddamn hard to read even for native speakers. In fact, I showed Onore the same screencap and he had a hard time figuring out what the heck was in it. Grass style is sort of like the equivalent to cursive writing from what I understand. Here is how big of a difference the various styles are. So to me, it makes perfect sense that the team could at least read a little bit of the old books but Genta can't because he didn't have the same kind of training as them.

tl;dr Genta can read kanji but the rest of the team knows how to read kanji even when it's done in a very pretty artistic form. DAMN YOU GUYS AND YOUR TRADITIONAL TRAINING.

So what was Ryuunosuke's first week living in the Shiba mansion like? Did he have a secretly hard time adjusting and such?

[identity profile] wetfortono.livejournal.com 2010-11-14 09:19 pm (UTC)(link)
He had the worst time adjusting, honestly. Homesickness was plaguing him, he was over the fence when it came to Takeru, and he was busy trying not to show it all and be a professional vassal. He was trying so hard he really came across as an even more stuck up, wound up screw than he is usually. It got a bit better once Mako reached through to him, even though she pretty much pushed him away again once he felt better. H-his poor heart.

... I don't think I ever asked for a first impression of Genta on Ryuunosuke ...

[personal profile] justplaingolden 2010-11-14 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
So when he first met the team, he didn't think much of them. He was too busy focusing on MAKING SURE HIS SUPER SECRET ENTRANCE WAS STILL A SECRET!!1 He still doesn't regret giving you all wasabi. Anyway, once he reintroduced himself to Takeru, he assumed he would get along with the others just fine! My headcanon is that he learned from Takeru when they were kids that being ShinkenBlue means being second in command so he knew that much about Ryuunosuke too!

... And then Ryuunosuke made that comment about how "it couldn't be helped" that the team had to accept Genta. That got on his nerves very badly because Genta wanted to be part of the team because he earned it! Not just because he's Takeru's friend! WAY TO DOWNPLAY MY AWESOMENESS, ASSHOLE. It was then that Genta figured getting along with Ryuunosuke was gonna take some time. He thought Ryuunosuke being second-in-command (and thus Takeru's right hand man) had something to do with that attitude. Also, note how right after Takeru and Genta finish off the Ayakashi in episode 18 that Ryuunosuke compliments Takeru (as always) but totally ignores Genta.

Then episode 19 happened and lol. Genta disliked Ryuunosuke even more because he was showing more passive aggressiveness and aggressive aggressiveness. He kept downplaying his abilities and how he's not a samurai! The samurai thing is another touchy subject for Genta because ever since he made that childhood promise with Takeru, he's known that he was gonna be different compared to the other Shinkengers. However, he didn't think it was gonna be as big of an issue as Ryuunosuke was making it to be. Genta has always been the type to believe that there's nothing wrong with bending (or even outright breaking) traditions when situations call for it. And now suddenly, here's this stuck-up asshole who believes in tradition even if it's not practical in the long run. So yeah. Things were getting ugly.

Despite all the negativity, the fact that Ryuunosuke was a skilled samurai did not get passed Genta. It's why he was willing to stalk him after Mako explained what sort of person Ryuunosuke was. He's got at least some good qualities so Genta wanted to pick something up! He tried to keep an open mind that maybe his personality could rub some people the wrong way.

You know what happens in the rest of 19. It felt so good for Genta to finally call out on Ryuunosuke's passive aggressive asshole attitude. :D THE REST IS HISTORY.

THE STORY BEHIND THE BLEACHED HAIR, RYUUNOSUKE. Please include the aftermath and how your family took it.

[identity profile] wetfortono.livejournal.com 2010-11-16 06:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Alright. So. Ryuunosuke is a guy with a healthy portion of self-confidence. He's humble, but not in a self-depreciating fashion. By no means has the thought that he is ugly or unpopular crossed his mind. And all that despite my semi-headcanon of being the odd one out in school. I think that Ryuunosuke has discovered one perhaps a bit superficial way of making sure people like him - and that is to look good. He's still himself, all argyle and sweatervests, but not at all hard to look at. The girls probably thought he was cute! And so he found himself guilty of following some trends - jewelry and hair bleaching along with that. He probably did so gradually, not because his fluffhead couldn't handle otherwise but to make it less noticable. But of course, his family noticed - his mother did so first. I imagine his father basically :/-faced and refrained from questioning it because Ryuunosuke was an excellent son in all other regards - a good kabuki actor, a good samurai, a well-behaved young man with all that filial piety going on. Besides, teenage fashion is something Ryuuzaburou might have distanced himself from, so as long as Ryuunosuke still looked orderly - which he does, prim style and all - there is no major reason to make a fuss. Besides ... even if Ryuunosuke hadn't become an active Shinkenger, he would have likely done kabuki all life - he wouldn't have to convince tight-assed company bosses of hiring him, so it wasn't as strictly necessary to blend in as it might be for your average Japanese youth.

His mother was probably secretly amused, but worried he was trying to get popular with the girls. That one pretty much eased itself once it became evident that he wasn't even interested. She might have asked and flustered him a lot, but he reassured her right away.

Lastly! The denial stems from embarrassment. Ryuunosuke is aware that the hair bleaching doesn't fit anywhere into his slightly anachronistic attitude, and he isn't very keen on explaining that he started it in order to avoid getting in trouble with bullies and bring unnecessary drama upon himself. Of course, it also helped his self-confidence. Girls might have whispered behind his back - he's handsome after all. He is kind of vain, but ashamed to admit it.

Genta. DID IT HAVE TO BE BLUE? WHY BLUE?

Genta didn't think much about it while growing! Blue always happens to be a color associated with boys so naturally he had blue stuff. Whatever! As a kid, he didn't think about what color he was going to be whenever he talked to Takeru about being a Shinkenger.

After he moved and was doing serious self-training, he knew that he was going to be the one ranger who sticks out a lot. It couldn't be helped. So he figured, why not go all the way! He may have very briefly thought about other colors before deciding gold was perfect for him because lol Gold Sushi. To stick out even further, he decided the secondary color on his uniform should be different from the others too! After several fashion disasters, he came across blue and decided that looked the best.

As for why so many of his casual clothes now are blue too, I think it's for two reasons. One, despite his personality, he has enough sense to know what would look good on him. ... Usually. It's the special occasions like New Year's that he gets whacky. Two, blue is a much more common color when it comes to finding clothes.

Headcanon for what Philip's very first week with Shoutarou was like. Go!
